Four Ways Residents are Living the Good Green Life at Willow Valley
It seems like everyone is talking about green initiatives these days, but at Willow Valley Retirement
Communities, Residents are already enjoying a high quality of life at low cost to the environment thanks to sustainable, energy-efficient practices.
We consider sustainability a collaborative effort. Our Residents are environmentally responsible with an eye toward preservation for the next generation. And Willow Valley believes that we too have a corporate social responsibility to be good stewards of our resources albeit financial, environmental, or physical. Read on to learn more about our eco-friendly initiatives!
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Our HVAC system uses the heat in the water produced while cooling some residences to heat other apartments for residents who want a warmer temperature. Read more about our energy-efficient system.
We encourage our Residents to take advantage of energy saving opportunities and periodically supply them with a list of action items that they can do to help curb energy consumption in their retirement community.
WATER CONSERVATION
ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
Our Spring Run natural wetlands are a mini-ecosystem that supports all kinds of indigenous plants and wildlife. The wetlands filter nitrates that originate from nearby farmland and turf runoff out of the water. Plants along the meandering stream readily take up the excess nitrogen as nutrients and prevent problems downstream. Plants filter silt from the runoff and the silt encourage the growth of more plants providing food and cover for many species of birds and animals.
The wetlands area is just one example of the many soothing outdoor spaces on the Willow Valley Retirement Communities campuses. With miles of biking and hiking trails and other recreational areas, there are countless ways to be immersed in nature.
Willow Valley’s Housekeeping Team leaders have initiated some ideas they learned while attending the Pennsylvania forum on Green Cleaning and are committed to using “green” environmentally responsible, high quality products and processes.
